Through basic sewing skills, one can make fashionable pillows of your own style and preference. All you need is an old pillow, fabric, sewing machine, zipper and some thread.

Here's how you can make your own throw pillow:

1. Get an old pillow and remove the old, boring pillow. Choose a fabric with an interesting color or pattern. Lay out the fabric over the throw pillow. Fold over the fabric so the right sides are together.

2. Measure the fabric as well as the extra fabric as extra margin over the sides of the pillow. Be sure to add an extra inch on all sides. Cut the fabric according to the right size and shape.

3. Choose the side of the cover where you'll be sewing the zipper. Use sewing pins to attach the zipper. The closed zipper should be located on the right side. Meaning, the pillow cover will be closed by the zipper from left to right.

4. Use a strong thread with the same color as the dominant color of the pillow. Adjust the pillow's stitch position to ensure the pillow's close fit.

5. Clip the pillow's inner corners to create a smooth and finished look of the cover. Turn the pillow cover right side out to make sure all seams are even. Now you have the perfect pillow cover that will look wonderful on your sofa and couch.
